Travellers – Know Nepal’s First PRESIDENT
Newly formed Government upon abolishing Monarchy in May (May 2008 made Nepal Monarchyless.) has sent the Royals back to their homes to be just like other Nepalese except Royal assets are beyond the grasp of average Nepalese. Set aside the assets, now expect from Royals what Nepalese are made – for they are known as hard working, honest and loyal, warm and friendly people always wearing a smile in spite of extreme hardship life.
All this isn’t a surprise to us. Believe it. It’s a fact. If you have ever met a Nepali, i.e. where-ever you have found him or her on this planet, you will find them to be one of your best friends, great worker, loyalist and someone who aways wears a smile for you. Nepal is now finally a The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal (so note that done if you are not keeping up with news from around here)
Future will tell if Royals will display those characteristics of a true Nepali in their roles.
Now, Travelers! Yes, Nepal now has President.
Up til now, the only thing you heard were Nepal PM, PMs, Prime Minister, Cabinets, Ministers, and so on. But now the word “President” applies to Nepal.
It’s new, just happened on July 2008 23rd U.S. Time, 2008.
Nepal having a President is a history in the making itself. But how this president will function, and what roles he plays ahead remains to be seen.
Unlike the most democratic process followed by other countries in picking “President”, here in Nepal, selected candidates have the power to pick anything, so they do it for even the most powerful position like “President” who is often referred to as THE leader of the nation who has the utmost power.
Sounds unfair to the method by which this new President is picked ? Well, just relax a bit. All will be clear to you.
Nepal’s Government is a new one. Just formed a few months back after many years of struggles carried out with a movement called “People’s Movement” And the new Government faces many challenges that lie ahead not just in order to prove to the people that it will actually work but also because this is the only hope and chance that NEPAL and its politicians will ever get to develop the nation.
The new Government has many agendas on hand such as rewriting the constitution of Nepal and dealing with corruption and refining the Laws in many sectors. Perhaps after a year or so, the selection process for President would be similar to what is done in developed countries such as the United States – (Through General Election)
For now, just greet Nepal, be happy with it, for it’s has peace and things are running smoothly. They now have a leader – The President of Nepal, Ram Baran Yadav
Picture of President.

- Name : Ram Baran Yadav (Full Name Dr. Ram Baran Yadav)
- Age : President is in his 60s
- Justice Residing In Ceromony of Oath was : Chief justice Kedar Giri
- President Yadav remained an active member of the Nepali Congress (NC) many years.
- He was also the General Secretary of the NC Party.
- Many have labeled him as a member of the Ethnic Minority Group Known as Madhesi while some disagree with that label.
- Madeshi group was born in Terai region of Nepal which for sometime has remained under-developed unlike most cities and towns of Nepal.
- Perhaps Nepal decided that a President from that land could do better in developing the region and reconciling differences between various Ethnic and Political groups which have had many clashes in the fast. Terai is the lower-flat part of Nepal, much of it is used by by manufacutring plants, industrial companies, farmers raising crops, and Terai is the immediate border with Nepal’s next neighbor – India.

I have an American friend who says to me, your country’s president doesn’t look like a Nepali. I replied, well u can not judge someone by their look, and may be you haven’t visited our country’s terai region, most people look pretty much same as the President.
Here again I couldn’t escape the thing I hate “generalisation of people based on their look”
… there is more than face for a leader!
