Nepal Marks May 29 Mt. Everest Day

In an effort to recognize the importance of enormous contribution made by Mount Everest to Nepal’s tourism Industry, Nepal declares May 29 as International Mount Everest Day.

It wouldn’t be impossible to prove otherwise that Mt. Everest itself contributes more business than any others to Nepal. Many expeditions take place to Everest from Nepal side than Tibet, also Everest Expedition is the biggest travel package of Nepal. The package can cost up to US$ 50,000 giving a huge foreign revenue to the land which is shared by Sherpa Guides, Local accommodation providers, travel agents, and even the cook who prepares meals for these bravery men who embark on the toughest climb on earth.
Nepal’s move to mark May 29 as the “International Mount Everest Day” follows upon decision made by the Ministry for Tourism and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. This will not only be a Domestic Festival but an International Festival, i.e. if respected by other countries for this decision.

The day would be celebrated in memory of the 1st submitter to the Everest, Late Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand along with a Nepali Tenzing Sherpa who conquered everest on the same day (May 29). Since their step on top of the Everest, they have inspired others to follow their path of bravery and achieve, and adventure seekers have found Nepal their #1 destination.

In this year alone, Nepal renamed the Lukla airport, which is recognized as the highest airport on earth. It is located just a few distance from the Everest. The name was changed to Tenzing Hillary Airport to remember and honor him. “Many Everest submitters are headed to Nepal this month to climb and to celebrate this Festival”, claim expedition operators in the country.

Nepal also uplifted the ban on Everest this Friday. Over 35 teams are already at the Everest base camp to climb the world’s tallest mountain this season.

As peace remains in-tact, and the new government is taking roles one step at a time, things are looking much better for Nepal.

Recently, World Bank Donated over 50 Million US$ for economic development programs. A sign that the world has already embraced this country’s democratic movements.

It’s time for other countries to support Nepal. You can help yourself by just placing this on your calendar; mark it!
