Visiting Nepal For Work

Visiting Nepal For Work

When we talk about Nepal, Holidays and Trekkings get the most profile. But did you know that Volunteering, Travelling for research and even working as an English teacher, are all on the rise as more and more people find them another way to explore Nepal. If you lack that extra little bit of money, nothing can stop you from learning about the unique Nepal and its wonderful atmosphere.

In this post, I will show you how you can work and travel in Nepal.

You will not be earning much in Nepal for it’s a poor nation. However, you can earn enough to live there, travel, and explore Nepal for a certain period of time. You might wonder, is it really possible? Well, people are doing it, so please read on…

I worked for 12 years with Vaidya’s Group, one of the well known and highly respected business organizations of the country. During my time, we had many foreigners working in the company, some doing their University research papers for exams such as pHD, and some just contributing their skills in return for learning about the Nepali way of doing business. Our company provided them with a office of their own, a desktop computer with Internet Access, company paid rent, transportation, and gave them a salary. They would work 4 days a week and sometime they were allowed to travel to other parts of the country. I remember very well; We had like one from each of these country’s, only one person at a time though; France, Germany, United States, New Zealand and Japan. I am pretty sure something similar must also be happening in other Nepali companies then and now. How cool is that for a foreigner to work in Nepal and explore the country at the same time?

Now, how do we go about finding a Nepali company that would hire you? Here are some tips you might find useful:

  • First of all, you must have a solid reason as to why you want to come to Nepal and work with that company, also you must be willing to contribute to the organization. It’s a give and take business. Answer this: You as a foreigner, what can you give to a Nepali company? Some ideas could be, doing a feasibility studies for their new business, training their managers on management skills, helping the company find foreign investors, etc. To contact Nepali Companies, google using the term “Nepal Business Organizations” or find it in our web directory listings. Send them your proposal and please tell us how it goes. You can also look for jobs on the Nepali online job site.
  • For doing Volunteer works, contact our social organizations. What good can we leave behind after that final end? Our foot-prints perhaps. There is so much you can do here in Nepal. There are over 10 International None Governmental Organizations. Try your luck with them for a job. To volunteer, you can do so through other various Nepali Social Organizations as well.
  • For English teaching, start with the listing of schools and colleges located in cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara. Search or visit our directory to find that. Contact them and see how it goes.

There is nothing like having 3 months or 6 months or even more of your time in Nepal not just travelling and learning, but being one - a Nepali!

If you are already there and are working or had worked in Nepal, please share your experience with others. We would love to hear from you as your comment to this post. Thank you in advance.

Have a good one everybody!
