Tips:
- Website is a tool to sell information, products, and services online. So website is your showroom where there are no walls, no chairs, no employees, overheads are negligible and your showroom is open 365 days 24/7. Just like the physical showroom, we need to set sales target; monthly, yearly and evaluate our performance. Your website itself is a sales person. For our travel sites who obtain business through emails, we can set the number of email response as target and keep track of how many of those actually turn into sales. Without any targets, you are running your showroom as a ghost house.
- Measure Your Performance Periodically such as this year vs last year, this month vs last year’s month, etc. Create charts and graphs and enjoy playing around with target vs achievements. By evaluating your online performance on a regular basis, it can be a guide to do better in the coming months.
- Have a monthly meeting with all of your staffs and ask each one of them to go through your website. Get feedback. A joint effort goes a long way. Get ideas from the people who work for you and it wouldn’t cost you anything extra, would it? No! Be a participative company not a dictator.
- Provide answers to every questions your visitors might have on your services. Don’t just assume visitors are smarter than you! Create a section called Faqs(Frequently asked questions) so visitors can find answers online. This will reduce your workload. Do you get emails from travellers asking questions such as is the meal included is my travel package? Providing answers to frequently asked questions will greatly reduce your work.
- Make it a habit to check your emails daily and multiple times. Showing your prompt response shows your company is active and serious. Consider every email you receive from your prospective customer can turn into sales. So, if possible extend some discounts for those who use your online website. They will appreciate that, and it shows that you are different than the rest.
- Create a multimedia with videos, slide shows and give this to your customer when they arrive in Nepal. Do all you can to provide that extra customer care. Many traveller carry notebooks/laptops, they will surely enjoy watching videos of activites that they are about embark upon.
- Don’t confuse your visitors by listing lots of email address on your website. One is enough to receive emails.
- Don’t hide prices. Don’t expect that visitors will have the time to ask you questions about prices. If your price is high, then, you sure have better quality of services than others. People know; you get what you pay for.
- Provide your customer with some gifts. They don’t have to be expensive. An example of gift; A Nepali Topi for Men and Shawl for Women shouldn’t burn a hole in your wallet. When you take good care of one single customer, your business can multiply. Consider that very same customer giving you repeated business; he might visit Nepal again, he might bring his friends, he might recommend your company to others. Please one, you’ll be pleasing many.
- If you are the CEO, try greeting your customers when they arrive in Nepal. Introduce yourself as the CEO of your company. Just imagine how much your customers will be impressed when a CEO welcomes them to Nepal, but not your office messenger. Do something different than others would do.
- Work to improve the quality of your website in terms of content, design, navigation system, and usability. If required, get help from professional writters such as Journalists.
Don’t just create a website that looks like a brochure, create your virtual showroom and don’t just be a travel company of Nepal but be The Travel Care of Nepal. Hope these tips are useful for you.
Until next time,
Namastay!

Lamsal ji, thank you for these great tips. I am in the process of creating site for my travel company, Holiday Worlds p ltd. I will be using your guide. What about making site search engine visible? Should a flash driven site better? Hope to get some feedback.
Flash driver sites can be more difficult than html for the search engine visibitily. Create sites using your own and useful contents. Keep your customer in mind when you are designing sites. Ask for web designer to setup a content management software like wordpress, mambo, joomla, etc. That way you yourself can update content when you want.
