I love Pokhara and have been there many times with my friend, on the way to Annapurna.

But speaking of exotic places I discovered one recently, this time travelling alone in Kathmandu Valley. It is exotic and it is unique, and the place is called Chobhar Village. The great advantage is that Chobhar is so close to Kathmandu, …only 8 kms away….or 20 minutes by car or motorbike. I want all my women friends to know about it, specially those of us who love beauty, and flowers and who appreciate panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain ranges…..so close to Kathmandu, which according to ADB (Asian Development Bank supported the latest study is Asia’s worst polluted city among 20 cities on this continent. So I ask: why would anyone want to stay in Kathmandu very long?…have to wear a mask to fend off air pollution?….not to speak of noise pollution of these blaring discos at night…In Chobhar Village..a stone throw away, I and my women friends have found real peace and tranquillity. Chobhar is an ancient HILL VILLAGE (ALT over 1200 metres) and from there, on a recent visit we could see all of Kathmandu Valley and Patan in the distance, in a truly panoramic view. Want to see more? ask the one and only little innkeeper in Chobhar (nice little man with glasses called Shankar) and he will arrange for you to go up to the top terrasse of the Chobhar Gomba, Monastery to you and me. From this Buddhist place of worship, you will have a 360 degree view of the snow-capped himalayas. In town there are about eight temples to see, including the 15th century Aditnath which is sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus. In September and October up to 50,000 people come mostly on foot to worship there, in the center of Chobhar Village. Can you spend the night there?
Can you have an excellent meal there? Yes, just look it up in Lonely Planet and you will find this little jewel of a place where you can eat and have a rest, or else go to any search engine and look up chobhar …..or google blogs….hundreds of photos….full of charm, beauty…sculptures in Nepal’s first and only moder art sculpure garden…..It is all there for the picking!! I love Pokhara but I also love this little paradise in Chobhar Village. I really recommend it to anyone who loves beauty and who is spiritual. It is the most spiritual place I know of, so close to the capital we all want to avoid….The place has five times the amount of acceptable air pollution norms. That is five times too much. Chobhar on the hill…has no air pollution and no noise pollution.
