Mountains = Money
Hiking is Cheap and so is trekking in smaller mountains in Nepal.
But if you are attempting to conquer even the neighbors of the mighty Himalayas, it seems to burn a hole in your wallet!
Have a look at these numbers, do they mean anything, i don’t have a clue!
Groups, Individuals, Royalty Fee
Mount Everest Expedition:
A group consisting of 1 individual : Royalty Fee is : 25KUS$
A group consisting of 2 individuals : Royalty Fee is : 40KUS$
A group consisting of 3 individuals : Royalty Fee is : 48KUS$
A group consisting of 4 individuals : Royalty Fee is : 56K US$
A group consisting of 5 individuals : Royalty Fee is : 60K US$
A group consisting of 6 individuals : Royalty Fee is : 66K US$
A group consisting of 7 individuals : Royalty Fee is : 70K US$
So if you were to go for a Everest Expedition in a group of seven you would have to pay US$ 10,000. That is just the fee which is gone. You will feel better knowing that the fee you paid is for Good. But do all climbers know where the money actually goes ?
For Other Mountains:
Cost for upto 7 individuals:
Mountains Less than 6501meter in height, Fee 1K US$, 200 US$ per additional individual
Mountains 6501 to 7000M 2K US$, 300$ per person Extra
Mountains 7001 to 7500M 3K, $400 for
Mountains 7501 to 8000M 4K $500
Mountains 8000M (other than Mt. Everest) 10K, 1.5K for additional person.
The higher you go in Nepal, Nepal want’s more of your Money!
Royalty has to be paid to Nepal Government for Mount Expeditions which is usually done in groups usually consisting of 7 or even higher numbers. It helps individuals lower-down the overall costs of expeditions - the costs; transportation, guides, and of course the Royalty Fee.
Now why are the fees so high - that’s a good question. Who could have some answers?
Less than 5 thousand people have climbed Everest since it’s birth about 60 million years ago. There are 6.5 Billion People on the Planet.
The Fees have to be higher. Much Much Higher!!!!
Many believe that the Royalty Fee is so high that even those who are physically fit for everest can only dream.
How were the royalty fees created and how often are they reviewed? Would a cheaper fee encourage more climbers to visit Nepal or even a good question is where does the Royalty Fee go to? Would a climber feel better knowing where his fee went ?
For more have a look at this scary page http://www.tourism.gov.np/schedule4.htm
and be sure to ask Nepal Government
“Where does my money go?”
